Interactive writing is a powerful tool to help students learn about letters, sounds, words, and sentences.
During Interactive Writing, the teacher and class, or small group, work together to create the written text. The group agrees what to write through discussion and negotiation. Students help construct the written words by learning to articulate the words with the teacher and write down letters and chunks of words that they hear. The teacher may fill in parts of words or whole words, depending on the group’s stage of development.
